Unboxing Your Window Grille

Unboxing

I wanted to give a brief overview of what your window grille might look like when it comes in the box. Almost all the grilles are packed in some variation of this form. Inside the box, you’ll find some brown paper inside (which can be discarded) and the window grill itself. With each package you’ll have a little 4×6 label that talks through the installation instructions. The hardware is also included, attached with tape. You’ll find in each packet a bundle of magnets, stickers, and little screws.

Installs in 10 Minutes

We figure the total installation time takes about 10 minutes. I think 10 minutes probably includes the coffee break. You can remove all the hardware and throw away the screws. You don’t need those if you want to save them for some other product to help yourself. I started saving them and then I had thousands and thousands and I don’t need that many. So once all of the magnet sets are removed and the screws disposed of, you can start assembling them for the back of the grille.

Attach Adhesive to Magnet Kit

Now you’ll notice that each magnet has a strike plate and a magnet. The strike plate attaches to the grille and the magnet attaches to the window. Make sure that you put the adhesive tabs on the backside of the magnets. Once you have the adhesive tabs on the backside of the magnets, you can put adhesive tabs on the corresponding strike plates. The red color that you see will go away once these are installed- the red is just the adhesive backing that’ll get peeled off.

So once you have those magnets set up and ready to go, you can pick your favorite side on the grill. As you’ll notice, all of the grills come painted on both sides, so it doesn’t really matter which one you want to have facing the room and which one you want to have facing the outside.

Peeling off the Adhesive Backing

Now, I’ll warn you, the absolute hardest part of the install is peeling the adhesive backing off the adhesive. And for those of you that actually cut your fingernails occasionally, you’re at a distinct disadvantage. So usually what I do in this case is I work with it  for a while just to prove that I have actually attempted this. And then I call my wife whose fingernails are much more adept than mine. Once you have the red backing off the adhesive, you place the magnets. I like them just about three inches from the end. I use a little business card. I know that’s about the right size. Place them on the grill about three inches from the end on the long side. Now you can, if you want, attach just for now the corresponding magnets to each of the strike plates, and you’re ready for the install.
