From my experience, especially with the kind that are applied over the glass, vinyl window grilles tend to become brittle and break over time. Depending on the manufacturer, the plastic can start to yellow a bit in the sunshine—kind of like someone’s been smoking a little too close by. Once they start to snap or break, whether from being removed for window washing, or maybe a dog clawing at the glass, it becomes pretty noticeable. In fact, broken grilles often draw more attention than they did when they were intact.
How to Remove Snap-In Vinyl Window Grilles
An easy solution for dealing with vinyl window grille inserts is to simply pull them out. Now, this isn’t always the case, but if the grilles are attached over the glass, the feet of the grille insert usually fit into little pockets around the edge of the glass. If you’re careful, you can gently pull the grille away from the glass and watch those feet rise up out of the pockets. If you’re gentle, the whole thing should pop right off, leaving your glass clear.
