Do Window Grilles Deter Burglars?

Are Grilles a Security Feature?

Lately we’ve had several people inquire as to whether or not our window grills serve as security or provide security protection. And the easy answer to that is, no, they don’t.

Deterrent not Security

I would say, however, that window grill will provide some kind of deterrent, because if somebody’s looking in the window, they’re going to see the window grill, and as far as they’re concerned, it may be metal. So if I’m a thief looking to break into a house, I’m probably going to find a window that doesn’t have a window grill in if that’s my point of entry.

Go for Black

Now that being said, if you are ordering a window grille and you’d like it to provide that kind of a deterrent, then I would recommend that you go with the black color, because that’s going to look most like rot iron. We do have one right behind me here that’s mocha stained. I’ll see if I can get you close enough to see that you can actually see the wood grain. Of course, it looks beautiful, but it’s not going to look like rot iron, and in that case, obviously you might not get the same level of deterrent. Please understand this is not a security feature.

Visual Barrier

It would just be a deterrent to give somebody the visual impression that that space would be harder to penetrate. So just keep that in mind when you’re ordering a window grill. Again, we don’t claim that these offer any kind of security protection. All our grilles are made out of wood, but they often do look like wrought iron, and that’s sort of the goal. So in that case, it could offer some kind of a deterrent for you. Anyway, hope that helps and stay safe.
