How Much Does Stained Glass Cost

Hey, Dwight Kopp here with Forgotten Mountain.

Window Grilles or Stained Glass

So it turns out a lot of people that end up coming to us for window grilles actually start their search with stained glass, or at least have an interest in stained glass. And so that interplay of light and shade is what draws them to this product.

Tiffany Windows

As it turns out, just last week I was visiting a friend of mine who happens to work at a church down in Historic Lancaster, and he showed me Tiffany windows. I might throw in some pictures here so you can have a look (see video). They’re absolutely magnificent and definitely works of art. However, as you can imagine, the price point for those is well out of reach for most of us. And so even though you can still get a stained-glass window made, the price per square foot is about $250 to $700 according to some sources. Now, obviously that depends quite a bit on the intricacy of the design. That same sort of effect can be achieved with a window grille as well.

Make Your Own Sanctuary

You’re not going to have the same colors, but you still get that sense of privacy and intimacy of space that a window grille or a stained glass window can create. It kind of makes your room feel like a sanctuary, and I think that most of the people that are looking for window grills are wanting to create a different level of intimacy or privacy in a room and just kind of change the atmosphere to something that feels like a place of refuge.

Notre Dame Rose Window

So certainly we do all kinds of custom designs, and we’ve done some reproductions, including the western window of Notre Dame. And I’ll try and drop a picture in here of that so you can see that. Now, when I say reproduction, all works recreating is the fret work or the open work that originally would hold the different glass panels. Now most of our patterns are just curated and certainly you can pick from the curated list that we have.

How to Measure

And all you need to do is measure the glass on your windows and our window grilles install right into that space. So measure right to the edge of the glass, height and width, and pick your favorite color and pattern, and we can make that in about seven days. The installation time is about three to 10 minutes. I figure 10 minutes if you include a coffee break. So long as that doesn’t include the ladder time if you have any of that. But feel free to give us a call if you have any questions or if there are custom designs that you’re looking at recreating. We certainly enjoy doing that and would be happy to help. Thanks.
