Adding Grilles to Existing Windows

Hey, Dwight Kopp here with Forgotten Mountain.

Want to Add Grilles to Existing Window?

If you’re wondering if you can add window grilles to existing windows, the answer is usually yes. Generally speaking, if you have a transom window, all you need to do is measure the glass. If you have any other opening, it doesn’t have to be a transom, just measure the glass and the window grille will fit exactly into that glass opening. The only exception might be if you have a double hung casement window where the bottom sash slides up. If there’s not enough clearance behind the bottom sash for the grille, then you probably can’t put a window grille in that window. But generally speaking, most grilles are installed in transom windows or over lights, sidelights on doors or door lights, so any of those options are very easy to install a window grille.

What About Existing Integrated grilles?

If you have an existing window grille that might be between the glass, you just have to decide if you like the look of a window grill on top of that, or if that’s going to clash. Generally speaking, the window grilles that are integrated in windows are white, so they kind of disappear behind a black window grille. Again, that’s personal preference and entirely your choice, but certainly if you have questions about that or how that works, give us a call. We’d be happy to help.
