Hey, Dwight Kopp here with Forgotten Mountain.
So if you’re looking at getting window grilles in your windows, there are obviously all kinds of different options.
Grilles Installed Between Glass Panes
There are the permanent window grill options that are either installed in between your glass panes or perhaps installed in a fixed fashion in the frame around your window. So the ones that install within the window themselves are pretty common with new windows or replacement windows. And generally that’s a reasonable way to go until you decide that you want to change the pattern. If you want to change the pattern in those windows, you essentially have to change the window, which is rather expensive. Very occasionally, those window grilles actually break inside the window and you have little bits of window grill that you can never fix because you can’t get to them again unless you replace the window.
My opinion is that while those window grilles are usually a reasonable option, they do sort of lock you into a design aesthetic that won’t change until you replace the windows and it kind of minimizes the options that you might have as far as design.
Removable Window Grilles
So we prefer the magnetic window grilles because you have the option to replace them if for some reason one gets damaged or if you decide you want to change the design or the look and feel of the aesthetic insider from outside the home. Now, the advantage of a magnetic window grill as opposed to the permanent grilles that would mount around the window frame is that the magnetic grilles install in about five minutes. Now the grill itself is wood, just the fasteners are magnetic. So to be clear, it’s a wooden grill that we make anyway that attaches with the magnetic fasteners so that you can remove them should you decide to clean the window.
Now, while those our grilles are generally cheaper than the fixed options, I think the best advantage or the biggest advantage of a grill that disconnects from the window easily because of the magnetic hardware, the greatest advantage you have is being able to clean the window. So unless you happen to moonlight as a dental hygienist and like the idea of reaching in through the little openings in the window grill in order to wash the glass, you’re probably not going to enjoy that experience. And my guess is you just won’t wash the windows. If you like to clean your windows or you like to have clean windows, the magnetic attachment is a boon because you can literally disconnect the grill in a matter of seconds. You can wash the window and put the grill back on.
So anyway, I hope that helps. Give me a shout if you have any questions.
