Problems with Solar Glare and Heat Gain?

If you’re dealing with heat gain or glare from the sun coming through your windows—whether it’s upper transom windows or lower ones—and it’s becoming a nuisance, we’ve got a solution. The best option we’ve found for this issue is the Phifer Solar Screen that we carry.

Block 90% of Glare

We use the charcoal 90 solar screen, which is designed to block 90% of the sun’s glare and heat. We like it so much that we’ve installed it in all our shop windows. It’s made a huge difference. Here’s what the fabric looks like:

Easy to See Through

If you look at the window behind me, you can see where we’ve installed the solar screen on the outside. Even though you may not get a great view through the video, I can clearly see through the window with the solar screen on. (Don’t judge the old window frame—it’s from a 1900s bakery, and we haven’t updated it with our own grilles yet!) But we’ve added the solar screen to all our shop windows because it makes a profound difference in reducing heat gain.

Grilles with Integrated Solar Screen

When we build a grille with the integrated solar screen, the screen comes attached to the back of the grille. Installing it is as easy as any of the other grilles we sell. It usually takes about 5 to 10 minutes to install. All you need to do is peel off the adhesive on the magnetic catch that attaches to the glass, and the grille pops right into place.

I’ll try to drop in some pictures of the grilles with the solar screen attached. The challenge with those pictures, though, is that it’s hard to see what it actually looks like once installed. When you’re inside, it doesn’t seem like you can see through the solar screen, but in reality, it works just like the window behind me. As I showed earlier, you can easily see outside during the day, but when someone’s looking in, it works like a window shear—you can’t see through it.
